The Russians built the Berlin Wall in 1961 to stop mass exodus from East Berlin.
In a speach at the Brandenburg Gate on June 12, 1987, commemorating the 750th anniversary of Berlin,
President Ronald Reagan challenged General Secretary of the Communist Party, Mikhail Gorbachev, to "tear downthis wall."
The falling of the wall began for real on November 9, 1989.
